The last natural note: C. With B, E, A, D, and G already done, mapping the C notes completes the natural notes across the fretboard. You'll anchor the easy C positions and reach the rest with octave shapes — including a second octave shape (down three strings, up two frets) that's hiding inside the C "cowboy" chord. Keep recycling your earlier drills, and don't forget to refresh the notes you've already learned.
What follows is this lesson’s section of the Course Guide — you can read it here or in the full guide →
In this module, your goal is to learn the positions of all of the C notes on the fretboard.
Reuse the exercises from previous modules to memorize the positions of all the C notes on the fretboard. Don’t forget to mix things up to constantly challenge your memory. In the video, I call your attention to another octave move that complements the +2 strings, +2 frets move we covered in Module 1. Here, the two roots inside the C major cowboy chord are connected by moving down three strings and up two frets. Because this move crosses the warp, the unwarped move is to go down three strings and up three frets. These octave moves are already visualized in the diagrams included for every “Memorize the fretboard” section.
